Hail and Well Met!

Greetings to all free people of Middle-Earth. Join Kirvay, Lalinreth, Jazdeia, Drakorin and Sylwin as they travel through Middle-Earth and offer hints, tips and opinions on the lands, people and characters they meet along the way.

This is a blog about 5 characters that I play in the game Lord of the Rings Online. LOTRO is an MMORPG which stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. LOTRO is based on the great books written by J.R.R. Tolkien:
The Hobbit
The Fellowship of the Ring
The Two Towers
The Return of the King
The Silmarillion

In this game you interact with real people as well as NPCs, or Non-Playing Characters such as Bilbo, Frodo, Strider, and many others. You can visit the Shire, Bree-Land, and even find your way to Rivendell and continue to the Misty Mountains!

There are four races that you can choose to create a character from; Humans, Elves, Dwarves and Hobbits. Dwarves are male only, but you can create either male or female characters with the other races. There are also several classes to choose from, but not all classes are available with all races.

The classes are: Burglar, Captain, Champion, Guardian, Hunter, Lore-Master, and Minstrel. Each class has it's benefits and it's drawbacks, but no matter what you choose to play you will have a great time exploring Middle-Earth.

So, follow along with me as my adventures take me far and wide. You never know what I might run into or finally get accomplished.

Housing coming to LOTRO

When I heard that housing would be a part of the next update for Lord of the Rings Online I got excited! Not only will I have a house where I can go to store even more things (I'm a pack rat) but I will be able to decorate it too! Everything from the floor color to furniture and trees outside! Its going to be great!

Not only will there be personal houses, but Kinships can also buy houses for the group to use for meetings, material trading, storage, and so much more. Company of Red Dawn will become a Lifespan Rank 7 Kinship a week or two after housing is released, and we will then be able to buy our Kinship house, which we have already saved enough money for.

So, here are a few details for those that like personal/group housing in MMORPGs. There are two types of houses, personal and kinship. There are two types of personal houses, simple and deluxe. To purchase a personal house, you must not only have enough silver/gold, but the character must have reached level 15 too. One house per account also, so if you play with more than one character, they would have to share the personal house, and the character that bought the house would have to set up user permissions for the other characters.

A simple house has two rooms and one storage chest. A deluxe house has more space and the option of two storage chests. All houses can be decorated on the inside and the yard outside, so it is possible to make your house show your personality (to an extent). You can also set your house's permissions to allow "anyone" to come in and view your house (I really like this feature, and may have it turned on for the Kinship house).

I have already "played around" with a personal house on the "preview" server and just can't wait until this is released for everyone. What a blast it's going to be!!!

Sylwin's last name

Some really great names were suggested to me in the game I had going on the LOTRO Arkenstone server forum, and I decided to go with "Silverwind" but changed the spelling a little bit to Sylverwynd.

So, Sylwin has a last name, and a very good one too, I think.

I have really been giving her "all the love" recently too. I need to get back to some of my other toons and start running them up as well. Poor Lalinreth has been stuck at level 18 for "forever" it seems.

Who knows what tomorrow holds, maybe I will run them all for a little bit, or maybe I will start rotating them.

Keep reading to find out what happens next!!

Give Sylwin a Last Name Contest

When a character reaches level 15 on LOTRO you can personalize them more by bestowing a last name (at a small cost, of course). Sylwin has reached level 16 and I have decided that it is time to come up with a last name for her. But, what to name her?

Then it came to me - ask others to suggest and/or vote on a last name for Sylwin. In exchange for this I am offering a prize (because I love to give things away in game) of a full set of light or medium armour appropriate to the level of the toon of the winner (and some dye to go with it too).

If you would like to participate in this little "game" of mine, all you have to do is have a character on the Arkenstone server, go to this thread http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=94126 and either suggest a last name or vote for one that has already been suggested.

One random poster will be the winner!

Sylwin just keeps on Questing!

I have been completing a lot of quests recently with my good friend Aereaon, a human Captain. We have been mostly in the Midgewater Marshes battling goblins, neeker-beekers, and these huge flies! Along the way we collect the local resources for our crafting professions. I was able to craft us Iron Mining Picks to help us collect ore faster! That was fun and saved us both a lot of silver! I even made an extra one and sold it in the Auction House in Bree for 99 silver, which was lower than what everyone else was selling their's for!

So, with all of the questing and battles that we have been doing, I reached level 15 last night and was given my first "class quest". I talked to my Hunter Trainer (the person I buy all of my Hunter skills from) and was told to travel to Adso's Camp west of Bree and meet with a lady there who would test my abilities as a hunter.

She took me to the Old Forest and told me about a wolf that was quite a problem and the need to kill it. I had to use my tracking skills to locate Yellowfang and set up a way to kill the wolf without it, or the other wolves, killing me in the process.

I searched high and low and looked everywhere I could to find Yellowfang, but this wolf eluded me all the while. I finally stumbled upon the infamous wolf and the battle began. I proved myself a worthy hunter by dispatching Yellowfang and received a very nice reward for my efforts.

I think I may take a break for a day or two and recover from these adventures, or I may find myself right back out there in the thick of things...one never knows!

Sylwin moves to level 13

I have reached level 13 after fellowshipping with a nice gentleman named Aereaon. He is a Captain and recently reached level 11.

On our last outing, we traveled through Chetwood Forest and battled Jagger Jack and his allies. We found ourselves victorious! These areas can be daunting and dangerous if you are not with the right people. But a good hunter and a good Captain can accomplish much when you put your mind to it.

I have not been doing much crafting yet. I still need to concentrate on collecting materials, then will work on my metalsmithing and should be able to craft some very nice heavy armour pieces when the time comes.

Jazdeia finally reaches level 21

After many battles and many failures, this little hobbit has finally reached level 21! Yes, what an accomplishment for me!

But, that's not all that I have recently accomplished either! My dear friend, a very tall and very nice Elven lady, Aereanor, assisted me with my Scholar's quest too! I had to travel to Rivendell to speak to the Elves about what I had learned, and what I could learn in the future.

Aereanor took me to Rivendell and then escorted me through a very scary part of the Lone Lands while I found some lost books to return to Rivendell. With that accomplished, I set my map to bring me back to Rivendell whenever I need to return.

So much accomplished, but still so much for this little hobbit to do.

What a weekend!

There was so much happening last weekend, I didn't get a chance to write until now! This weekend was the Monthly Kinship Summit Event Weekend, and what a blast I had.

If I had to guess, I would have to say that I managed to give away as prizes over 5 or 6 gold pieces of items last weekend! I played quite a few games of Hide and Seek where the person that found me would win 3 to 4 items including dyes, armour, books, food, and whatever else I had on me.

Then, on Sunday, was my "big game" where two teams competed in a friendly and very fun Scavenger Hunt! Both teams won prizes, but Wayward Souls won the game and the big prize package which included a full set of Superb Rangers' Armour, two high level bows, books and pages for the legendary deeds, food, dyes, recipes, and so much more!

I can't wait for next month when I will be playing Hide and Seek again, and will have another "big game" that I hope more will participate in.

We also had a Kinship Summit Meeting where a bunch of different Kinships got together to discuss different ideas and issues. We even had a few "creep" (monster player) kinships show up in their "freep" characters. Even when talking about PvMP (player versus monster player) everyone was very nice and very civil in the discussion - no name calling (except for the occasional joke which was laughed at by all).

This weekend was a lot of work - Jazdeia made a ton of dyes, Drakorin made rations and muffins, and I made armour and farmed like mad to come up with prizes. But it was also a ton of fun and I really love giving stuff away like that - it makes everyone happy, including me!

Kinship Summit Events on Arkenston Server

Who doesn't love something fun and something free? How about a Scavenger Hunt! And not just any old scavenger hunt, but one that will take you and your team (up to a total of 6 players) running throughout Middle-Earth!! But it's more than just a game, there is a huge prize package to go with it too!!

That's not all - what could be more fun than playing Hide and Seek with a Burglar? Why, playing Hide and Seek with a Burglar that gives you a prize for finding them!!

This is why so many of us play LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online) - it's fun!!!!!!

I hope that you will join me this coming weekend (September 22/23) for these fun games on the Arkenstone Server.

Drakorin's cooking now...

As a Dwarf, my first love is gems and precious metals of course. My second love is my music and what it can do to an opponent as well as a friend. But, my secret love is cooking! No, I'm not a Hobbit! I'm a Dwarf, and we need to eat too.

Last night with the assistance of a tall Elven lady, Aereanor, I was able to acquire the ingredients needed to make a Roast of Heros! Superb it was! The hunt however, was quite daunting. Being only level 19, nearly 20, and a minstrel to boot, I find myself no match for any opponent in the Trollshaws, which was where the Giant Grey Stonehoof was located.

It was not any ordinary beast either - it was huge! It roamed around in an area filled with Dragons!! Mighty beasts that would just as soon eat you as look at you!

But with my healing abilities, and the fair Aereanor's quick bow, we were able to make quick work of the giant boar, and I am now able to craft just about any food item you can think of!

HaHa!!! What a song that adventure will make...

Grand Master Tailor ... At Last

Yesterday I finally managed to collect (and buy) enough exceptional hides to achieve Grand Master Tailor ... Cheer!!!

I thought I had enough and traveled to Estelden to use the Superior Workbench, but fell short by 8 points! Yes, eight tiny little points kept the title away from me, though not for long. I used my map and travelled back to Eastern Angmar and hunted a few more blade-beaks to acquire a few more hides. Then, back to Bree and on to Estelden again.

A little processing, a little crafting, and ding, ding, ding, Grand Master Tailor!!!

Once big accomplishment down, and so many more to go. What should I tackle next? Stay tuned and find out.

Drakorin has a last name!

I am a dwarf, but not just any dwarf, I am a minstrel as well as a jeweler! A good song, a stout brew, and a gem to polish...could life get any better!

I was named well too, Drakorin Gemsong.

Recently, with the assistance of a hearty Elf lady, I was able to acquire a component I needed to make a most desirable trinket, and finish off my jeweler quest as well.

What this means is that I am now able to polish not only agates, amethysts, opals, and bloodstones, but now I can polish those brilliant sapphires and rubies!

Now it's time for a brew and a song!

Weaponsmith Quest Too Easy

With my half-sister at my side, we traveled to Naerost. When we were almost there, a half-orc was on the roadside, and I being a brave Guardian decided it should be dispatched. This fell creature was carrying the ruined Elven Blade that I and Aereanor were seeking!

I was fully expected a terrible fight, needing to slay several of these creatures before the blade would be revealed to us. To find the blade on the first half-orc was fortunate, but a bit of a let down.

I had fully prepared myself to stand toe to toe with these creatures, rending and smashing them in groups.

I can't say I wasn't delighted at our good fortune, and I did make a beautiful Elven Hunting-dagger, and have progressed in my Weaponsmith training.

Maybe the next quest will be more challenging. I shall let you know when I know.

No more pages...yet

Ahhh, there is nothing like running around in the Trollshaws with elite spiders all around, trying to kill them to get two simple drops...but nothing! No more pages, so I still need two pages from spiders and two pages from the Iron Crowns.

I decided to work on a deed, killing worms (kinda like baby dragons) and managed to kill a named one and got a nice drop from it. Didn't finish the deed yet, and will probably spend a bit of time hunting both spiders and worms.

I can say that I am more than half way done with the last tier of Tailor - just a few more hundred hides and I should be able to exclaim that I am a Grand Master Tailor. I really do want that title and the abilities that go with it too.

Off to do deeds, hunt spiders, and other fun things in Middle-Earth. Hope to see you in the game!

Book of Knives driving me crazy

I have been trying to get all 8 pages for the Book of Knives, and it's been driving me crazy - it's like they just don't want to drop for me at all!

I did finally get two more pages yesterday after killing spiders in the Trollshaws...big cheers!

So far I have a total of 4 pages. To get the last 4 pages I still have to kill spiders (last two pages) and Iron Crowns (first two pages).

I think that will be my goal today. I shall venture into the Trollshaws and take out as many spiders as I can stomach and see if I can get the two pages to drop from them. I have very little luck with the Iron Crowns, so I shall leave that frustration for last.

Hopefully today will be my lucky day, and I will be able to tell everyone that I finally finished the book and have the legendary trait equipped!

Stay tuned, you never know what might happen next.

Not Easy Being a Hobbit

It's not easy being a hobbit! Really, it's not. Just look at how my parents named me - Jazdeia Daisytripper! Daisytripper - I know that I am not as tall as most Shire folk, but I am not about to trip on any daisy or any other plant or flower!!

I do what I can to overcome my stature by expanding my skills and knowledge. I guess that is why I decided to become an Historian! I am learning so much about our history, everyone's history really. I also know how to work the land, being a Grand Master Farmer!

I have learned how to track animals, spot different items growing in the wild, and find ancient history to learn from.

Being being a Hunter and an Historian is exciting, challenging, and very rewarding! I make new friends wherever I go, and I hope to one day meet you and be able to call you a friend over a meal.

Lalinreth's Weapon Crafting Quest

I have been given a crafting quest so that I can continue my studies of Weapon Crafting. It appears that half-orcs have acquired an elven blade and being fell creatures, have ruined it. In order to prove my abilities as a weapon crafter, I will be venturing forth into the Lone-lands to a place called Naerost to recover the ruined blade.

Once I have recovered the blade, I shall craft a beautiful Elven Hunting-dagger.

I have no fear of failing this quest, and will venture forth with my half-sister Aereanor Windwalker. She is older and much more practiced in the art of dispatching fell creatures.

I shall let you know how our adventure unfolds.

Sylwin now level 12!

I traveled through Bree completing minor quests which included disposing of spiders in the Midgewater Marshes, collecting a handkerchief, and of course mining both copper and tin for my crafting.

I received my first crafting quest as well and was sent to Thorin's Hall to speak to a dwarf. I, being an intelligent human, chose to travel by horse. I met with the dwarf who just told me to keep working at my craft and that I would see him again soon.

So, using my map, I traveled back to Bree almost instantly. Now, I just need to continue mining and questing. Who knows what the future holds for this hopeful, young human hunter.

Hail and Well Met!

Hail and Well Met! Hello and Welcome! My name is Kirvay Windwalker in Middle-Earth. I am a human female, a burglar by trade, who crafts leather items for myself and others to wear.

I will be posting about my travels throughout Middle-Earth and letting you all know just what it is like to play this MMORPG, Lord of the Rings Online.

Last night, I finally reached one of my major goals, I am now level 50! For me, this was quite the accomplishment, and something I am proud of. My next major goal is to reach Grand Master Tailor, which is not that far off.

You can find me on the Arkenstone server most afternoons. I hope to see you in game!
